Libertad Collection
The Complete Guide to the Mexican Libertad
2025 · 1oz LIBERTAD · MEXICO MINT
Launched in 1982, the Mexican Libertad is the official sovereign bullion coin of Mexico. It is struck by La Casa de Moneda de México (the Mexican Mint), which was established in 1535 and is the oldest operating mint in the Americas.
Unlike most sovereign bullion, the Libertad contains no face value denomination. Instead, it is legal tender by law under the floating denomination of “Onza” (Ounce). Its official monetary value fluctuates daily based on the spot price of its metal content, backed by the Banco de México.
Production figures vary widely by year based on central bank directives, often resulting in highly irregular, low-mintage release windows compared to other global coin programs.
1oz Silver Brilliant Uncirculated
The 1oz Silver BU Libertad has been minted annually since 1982 in .999 fine silver. The series is divided into two distinct structural eras:
1982–1995 (Classic Era): Features a front-facing Winged Victory statue on the reverse and a single central coat of arms on the obverse. Dimensions: 36mm diameter, 3.5mm thickness.
1996–Present (Modern Era): Features a three-quarter profile Winged Victory design. Starting in 2000, the obverse was updated to display the current national seal surrounded by ten historical versions of the Mexican coat of arms.

2oz Silver Brilliant Uncirculated
The 2oz Silver BU Libertad was added to the program in 1996. Because it skipped the “Classic Era” design entirely, all 2oz bullion coins feature the modern structural layout from their inception.

1kg Silver Brilliant Uncirculated
The 1kg Silver Libertad is the largest format in the program, introduced by the Mexican Mint in 2008. Due to its substantial size, it has historically maintained the lowest annual production figures of any weight class in the Libertad series.
