Launched in 2014 by the Perth Mint, the Australian Wedge-Tailed Eagle is a legal tender coin series featuring designs by John M. Mercanti, the 12th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint. This program marked the first time a former U.S. Mint Chief Engraver designed a coin for a foreign sovereign mint.

The series is named after Australia’s largest bird of prey. Unlike bullion programs that maintain a static design over multiple decades, the Wedge-Tailed Eagle series features regularly updated reverse motifs depicting the eagle in various behaviours and life stages. The series includes bullion, proof, high-relief, and multi-ounce formats in silver, gold, and platinum.

1oz Silver Bullion

The 1oz Silver Bullion coin is the primary high-volume release within the Wedge-Tailed Eagle program. Struck by the Perth Mint in Western Australia, these coins carry a face value of $1 AUD.

The Perth Mint structures the mintage of the 1oz Silver Bullion coins as follows:

2014: Limited to a maximum mintage of 50,000 coins.
2015–2017: Issued with an unlimited mintage structure, meaning coins were struck to meet market demand until the end of each respective calendar year. Perth Mint has since declared the final mintages shown below.
2018–Present: Struck with a capped maximum mintage of 50,000 coins per year.
