Taekwondo is popular in and outside of Korea. It was developed as a combination of karate, Chinese martial arts, and indigenous forms of martial arts from Korea that include Taekkyon, Subak, and Gwonbeop. Taekwondo was an official sport of the World Games from 1981 to 1993 and has been an Olympic sport since 2000.
